CAREER DEVELOPMENT

Breaking Trail for Future Generations

Career Ladder

MDC wants to encourage you to make employment with us a career. We’re in the process of upgrading our benefits to attract the highest qualified applicants. Helping you develop a Career Ladder Employment Plan, your “Career Ladder,” requires your initiative and will incorporate your desires, experience and training, position availability, and general business practices.

As you acquire the education, experience, and qualifications, you become eligible for salary increases and promotion, as positions within our family of companies open up or are created. Some training and education opportunities may be paid or reimbursed in-full, or in part, by MDC depending upon your agreed upon Career Ladder. Upon approval and with completion of a given course, MDC may pay or reimburse tuition, required lab fees and book expenses. Courses must be related to the employee’s job or Career Ladder for consideration of reimbursement.

Educational assistance for training varies from program to program and is funded by the annual budget approved by the Board of Directors.

MDC has an agreement with the University of Alaska Fairbanks eCampus that provides online courses, certifications and degree programs. Many eCampus courses are free!

Developmental Hires

MDC understands that some talented people are between a rock and a hard place: they just need a chance to prove themselves to an employer.

MDC provides a “Developmental Hire” status to provide on the job training to promising applicants, when a position is available and the applicant does not meet minimum qualifications. The Developmental Hire will be placed in a lower pay grade until they have met the full-performance qualifications of the position and within a specified timeframe. Developmental Hires must establish a written development plan with their supervisor to outline specific training and development objectives and timeframe required for completion. Some of the training may be required to be done daily while at work.
